Jersey Shore Beach Wedding: Lorraine & Dave

You are going to love this next real wedding, complete with beautiful photos by Emily Liang of 1314 Studio. This non-traditional couple worked hard to make sure their wedding day was unique as they are! We love their attention to detail- from the pretty blue and green lanterns to the lovely, summery parasols, their hard work shows! The public beach in Long Branch, NJ was the perfect place for this gorgeous July wedding.

From the beautiful bride, Lorraine:

Our wedding took place on the beach at the Jersey Shore. We are both lifelong beach lovers, and after attending a beach wedding together, we were hooked on the idea for our own wedding. I knew I wanted a beach theme, but without being overly cutesy about it. I tried to balance beach-y touches with an airy, modern, tropical look that suited the venue.

Before the wedding, we did some bride-groom portraits on the boardwalk. Random strangers were walking up to me and telling me how beautiful I was, and taking pictures of me to show their friends. Long Branch is a popular destination for wedding watchers because the ceremonies are held on a public beach, and you can watch a wedding happen while working on your tan. It was kind of cool to have my very own paparazzi!

Dave and I aren’t particularly sentimental, but we both definitely got choked up during the wedding ceremony. After years of jokes about marriage and how getting married was about as exciting as signing a lease or applying for a passport, the actual experience of getting married to the man I love so much was overwhelming. I was so happy, not just for us, but that so many of our friends and family were there and were so happy for us as well.

We each had our brothers standing up beside us – Dave’s best man and my “maid of honor.” It was very sweet and also made for some good comedy.

Our wedding venue is very bright and airy, and also boasted gorgeous views of the ocean. We chose to keep our design elements on the minimalist side, because the view was better than anything we could design. Also, the table decorations were kept low and unobtrusive so guests could enjoy the delicious food and still be able to see the person across the table. We made a great effort to make our wedding more like a regular party than a traditional wedding reception.

I was a very hands-on bride in terms of planning, and I lost plenty of sleep obsessing over the details and making sure everything was just right. So the first moment of stepping into the reception space and seeing that everything was beautiful was amazing. All our planning and hard work paid off well and I was so pleased. I started crying during the father-daughter dance, not because of the song that was playing, but because my dad told me how beautiful I was, and how proud he was of me for doing all the hard work to make the wedding day perfect.
